The Courses
For the year 2008, our two principal courses, each lasting three months, will be:
- The Summer Course from 28th April until 24th July
- The Autumn Course from 8th September until 4th December
In 2008 we begin our year in a new way with a Winter Scripture School of 2 weeks, a Winter Retreat of three days, and a new 6-week course for those who have a shorter time for sabbatical or break. We hope that these new projects will be particularly helpful for people who want to experience Hawkstone but don’t have the time for a full 3-month course.
As we say goodbye to two stalwarts of the Hawkstone team our secretary, Mrs Julia Kerr, and our staff member, Sr Julian Knowles we welcome our new secretary, Mrs Lindsay Swatman, and we will be looking for a staff replacement for Sr Julian by April 2008. We also welcome new resource lecturers in Fr Brendan Callaghan SJ from Heythrop College and Mrs Bairbra Cahill, a mother and theologian from Ireland.
On each of the three-month courses we are, on the advice of participants, devising a new week on Living in Your Own Body, which will look at health issues, diet, lifestyle, and other helpful topics.
The House
Recently, Hawkstone completed the following developments:
- 5 newly decorated en-suite rooms for the use of participants and visitors
- the installation of a lift for easier access to all the bedrooms
- disabled access to the house, the conference room, and the church
- the redecoration of the church, including a new floor
- the refurbishment of the coffee room
- the rebuilding and updating of all toilets, showers, and bathrooms
- access to the Internet in all rooms
These developments have been warmly welcomed by our course participants and guests.
